Black Belt Testing
The Jang Mu Won Hapkido Association hosts an Offical Black Belt Test twice a year, usually in February and August.
This is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their Hapkido Black Belt Degree (Dan) Curricula, as well as their commitment, dedication, and effort to their training.
Candidates will showcase their skills in front of the official Jang Mu Won Hapkido Association Judge Committee, as well as friends, family, and fellow students.*
If candidates achieve the criteria, they will receive their official Black Belt and certificate issued by the Jang Mu Won Hapkido Association which will be presented at the Belt Promotion Ceremony.
The Belt Promotion Ceremony typically takes place one week after the Official Black Belt Test.
*International students may take their official black belt test via video Submission/call.
Black Belt Test Evaluation Process:
All Black Belt candidates will be fairly evaluated by an official Jang Mu Won Hapkido Judge Committee comprised of Black Belts who are at or above the 4th Degree level. Candidates will be able to pass their Black Belt Test by a majority vote from the Judge Committee.
The Judge Committee will consider personal ablity and or limitations of each candidate. When candidates submit their testing application, they may express any concerns that will remain confidential to the Committee (i.e. previous injuries, disabilities, etc.). Black Belt candidates may submit a request for a Limited or Honorary Test in the case that they are prevented from participating in specific aspects of their curriculum.
Each Black Belt Degree (Dan) has different criteria, and candidates must meet the standards of all criteria. All Black Belt candidates are evaluated on the following:
Understanding of Technique
Proper Execution of Technique with Accurate Speed and Power
Manipulation of Opponent using Foundational Hapkido Skills and Principles
If the candidate does not adequately fulfill these requirements, the candidate may not pass the test. In this case, the candidate may retest at the next Black Belt Test without an additional fee.
